RLS and Muir

They nearly met! They were both in San Francisco in early spring of 1880. They were both about to marry American ladies; Louisa Wanda Strentzel and Fanny Van de Grift. They must have

passed each other in the fog!

They both wrote boyishly about California and the extremes between play and death there.

John Muir must have been a fan; he had a copy of the complete works of RLS in his small set of books.

You can read much more in an essay by Matthew Kaiser.
