Fabulous Fables Liftoff
It's taken a while to get there, but we've today launched the exciting competition to find a Fable for the 21st century in the style of one of Scotland’s greatest writers Robert Louis Stevenson. Arguably amongst Stevenson’s greatest works, his Fables open up some interesting facets of a timeless art of storytelling. What better time to revisit them than in the upcoming Year of Scotland’s Stories 2022.
Entries are free, and close on 2 April 2022. The first prize is £500. The international judging panel, chaired by Alan Taylor the author and journalist can look forward to a set of fascinating entries. The official announcement of the results will take place at the International Robert Louis Stevenson Conference scheduled for June 2022 in Bordeaux.
The full details of the competition are at www.mrrls.com/fable .
There is an interesting story to tell around how Stevenson came to write his own set of fables, 22 of them in total. But I'm saving that for the accompanying Twitter feed @mrrlsfable . I'm none too sure how to tell a story using tweets, but I will give it a good go
